The design of the badge was intended to represent "the oak, ash and thorn" of "Puck of Pook's Hill", linked to the name of the first commander of the Corps, Lieutenant General Sir Andrew Thorne of the country of Pook Hill
The 12th Corps landed in Normandy from July 1944, integrated into the 21st Army Group with the main mission of taking command of the Engaged Divisions in order to ensure the continuity and coordination of British ground operations
