In June 1944, the 7th Battalion "Hampshire" Regiment landed in Normandy within the 130th Infantry Brigade, attached to the 43rd (Wessex) Infantry Division.
Initially kept in reserve, he was engaged in the fighting around the city of Caen, especially in Maltot, where he attacked with the support of the tanks of the 9th Royal Tank Regiment against Waffen-SS units and despite a progression in the village had to retreat after violent fighting.
In July, he participated in the capture of Cahagens, before advancing in early August towards Jurques and Point 132, near Mont Pinçon.
On August 6, 1944, he led a diversion attack during the offensive on Mont Pinçon, suffering heavy losses, especially within the C Company.
The battalion then regrouped in Mauny on August 10, 1944.
