The Calgary Highlanders fought in Normandy in the summer of 1944 in the 2nd Canadian Infantry Division.

After the Allied landing of June 6, 1944, they engaged in early July in the violent fighting south of Caen and especially around the ridge of Verrières, before participating in the Canadian advance towards Falaise.
