British Army MKII helmet and with chinstrap first type
En savoir plusMKII helmet with WE-WD-1 marking dated 1938
Liner manufactured by B.H. & G. (Barrow Hepburn & Gale Ltd) dated 1939
Rare early-production British Mk II steel helmet, dated 1938, considerably harder to find than the standard wartime examples.
This helmet remains completely original and untouched, retaining its original shell, a Barrow Hepburn & Gale liner dated 1939, and its original period chinstrap.
The unusual "WE" shell marking has not yet been positively identified in the specialist literature.
Research carried out through reference works and discussions with British collectors suggests it may represent a shell manufacturer, a subcontractor, a pressing workshop, or an internal production code used during the very first 1938 production contracts.
This still-unresolved marking adds further historical interest and makes this helmet a particularly desirable example for collectors of early British Mk II helmets.
