Lincoln Imp – 4th Lincolnshire Regiment – 49th Division

Rare metal sleeve badge known as the “Lincoln Imp”, worn by the 4th Battalion, Lincolnshire Regiment, part of the 146th Infantry Brigade of the 49th (West Riding) Infantry Division.

The “Lincoln Imp” is a legendary little demon carved inside Lincoln Cathedral.

According to tradition, two imps sent by the Devil came to cause trouble in the Cathedral.

One of them challenged an angel and was immediately turned to stone. Since then, his small figure has become one of the most famous symbols of the city of Lincoln.

This emblem was naturally adopted by units associated with Lincolnshire, including the 4th Battalion, Lincolnshire Regiment.
