The 8th Division was created in 1942 from the SS Cavalry Brigade During 1944, the ‘Florian Geyer’ Division constantly changed assignments

Most of the 8th Division fought in numerous defensive battles with Army Group Centre during the summer of 1944, and was then deployed at the end of the year in Hungary with the 22nd SS-Division ‘Maria Theresia’.

From November of the same year, it opposed the violent counter-attacks of the Soviet forces and continued the defence of the Budapest sector until the beginning of February 1945
