The 47th Infantry Division was to remain in the United Kingdom to complete training before being deployed to France within twelve months of the start of the war.
Instead, after Dunkirk, the division was dispersed to protect strategically important places and undertake anti-invasion tasks and was moved to Wales to defend the country against the invasion.
In 1944, parts of the division participated in Operation Bodyguard, in deception efforts in support of Operation Overlord, and in the provision of administrative services during the preparation of the invasion.
The division was dissolved in August 1944
