The 56th Brigade landed on June 6, 1944 in the Gold sector where it formed the right flank of the 50th Infantry Division

She remained under the command of the 50th Division until June 10 and then she was attached to the 7th Armored Division until June 12, to end up under the command of the 59th Infantry Division in early August 1944
