The reconnaissance units operate ahead of the infantry units, ensuring their reconnaissance missions, contacts with the enemy and progress in the Norman grove.

The 43rd Wessex Infantry Division landed in Normandy from June 24, 1944 and was quickly engaged in the toughest fighting in the British sector southwest of Caen, especially in the Odon Valley.

At the beginning of July 1944, the Division participated in operations to contain and repel the German forces around Caen and its most trying commitment remained the attack and defense of Coast 112, during Operation Jupiter.

This dominant position becomes one of the deadliest battlefields of the Normandy campaign and will be called the "Verdun de Normandie" or "Hell".

At the end of July and beginning of August 1944, the 43rd Wessex took part in Operation Bluecoat, a British offensive intended to support the American breakthrough after Operation Cobra and progressed through the Normandy bocage and participated in the capture of Mont-Pinçon.

After the breakup of the German front, the Division crossed the Seine at the end of August 1944 and continued its campaign in Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany until the end of the conflict.
