The 4th/7th Royal Dragoon Guards landed on Gold Beach on June 6, 1944, with its Sherman DD tanks among the first tanks to hit the beach in the King sector.
The regiment supported the 50th (Northumbrian) Division and then advanced inland, especially towards Creully and Caen.
