Royal Navy Signalling Lamp

Rare British “Signal Torch” manufactured by Santon Limited, Somerton Works, Newport (Mon.), serial number 7157.

Very nice example retaining its original paint and all of its components: front grille and chained cover, optical unit, signalling control and complete internal system of coloured filters allowing different light signals to be transmitted.

Model used by the Royal Navy for visual signalling communications.

This type of signal lamp can also be seen worn on the belt of a Kriegsmarine sailor photographed after the heavy fighting during the Dieppe Raid in August 1942, illustrating the operational use of this type of signalling equipment.

A particularly difficult piece to find this complete and in this condition.
