The 796 civilian volunteers of the ROC, who participated in the landings on June 6, 1944 aboard ships and various vehicles, were not part of the British Combined Operations Command, but were directly integrated into Operation Neptune

They participated in Operation Overlord through a temporary enlistment in the Royal Navy and directly had the rank of non-commissioned officer with a special rate salary of £1 per day
